Einführung
Der Trailtracker von researchdogs ist ein Tool, um die Leistungsfähigkeit eines Trailteams zu testen und dabei jegliche Beeinflussung des Hundes von außen auszuschließen.
Das Training von Double Blind-Trails gestaltet sich insofern schwierig, dass es nicht möglich ist, das Suchteam zu korrigieren, wenn keine der bei der Suche anwesenden Personen den Trailverlauf kennt.
Es gibt relativ teure Lösungen von einschlägigen Herstellern, mit welchen man sich hier behelfen kann, diese sind jedoch für das Trailen bezüglich des Mitverfolgens in Echtzeit oftmals ungeeignet.
Nachdem heutzutage nahezu jeder über ein Smartphone verfügt und diese Geräte meist mit HTML5-fähigen Webbrowsern und GPS ausgestattet sind, kamen wir auf die Idee, eine Lösung anzubieten, die von jedermann/frau einfach und gratis benutzt werden kann.
Konzept
Der Traillayer surft mit einem modernen Smartphone am Start die researchdogs Trail Tracker-Seite an.
Er startet die Applikation durch Drücken des Buttons Record Traillayer, steckt das Telefon in die Tasche und legt den Trail aus. Am Ziel angekommen, betätigt er den Button nochmals, der inzwischen die Aufschrift "Stop Recording" zeigt.
Unterhalb des Buttons wird ein 5-stelliger Code angezeigt. Unter diesem Code ist der ausgelegte Trail nun identifizierbar.
Bevor das Suchteam zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt mit der Suche beginnt, surft eine der an der Suche beteiligten Personen die Web-Anwendung an. In das Feld TrailID wird nun der 5-stellige Code, welchen man zuvor vom Fährtenleger erfragt hat, eingegeben und der Button Record Trail gedrückt.
Am Ende der Suche oder bei Abbruch betätigt man nochmals den Button Stop Recording. Beide Routen sind nun vergleichbar.
Vergleichsmodus
Auf dieser Webseite unter Trail Tracker - View Trails kann man sich nach Eingabe des Trail Codes, der beim Legen des Trails generiert wurde und welcher auch verwendet wurde um den Trail zu gehen, beide Routen - die des Fährtenlegers wie auch jene des Suchteams, - übereinandergelegt anzeigen lassen.
Sie können hier unter verschiedenen Kartentypen wählen, Google Straßenansicht oder Gelände oder Satellit, aber auch Openstreetview-Karten, die insbesondere im Gelände abseits aller Straßen genauere topologische Informationen bereithalten.
Des Weiteren findet sich unter der angezeigten Karte ein Link, der es erlaubt die Daten als KML-Datei herunter zu laden, um sie zu archivieren oder in Google Earth anzuzeigen und zu vermessen.
Alle gespeicherten Trails werden von diesem Server nach spätestens 10 Tagen gelöscht.

Unter dem Menüpunkt Trail Tracker - About kann man sich eine Demo des mobilen Trackers auf dem Desktop PC ansehen und sich damit vertraut machen. Wir empfehlen hierzu allerdings den Google Chrome Webbrowser, den Sie hier gratis herunterladen können
Introduction
researchdogs’ Trailtracker is a tool to test the efficiency of a trailing-team while excluding any external influence on the dog. The training of double blind trails is difficult insofar it is not possible to correct the trailing-team, if none of the persons present at the trail knows its course. There are relatively expensive solutions by relevant producers which can help. However, they are often not suited to tracing the trail in real time. As nearly everyone owns a smartphone nowadays, and these devices come with HTML5-suitable webbrowsers and GPS most of the time, we had the idea to offer a free solution, which can be used easily by anyone.
Concept
At the start of the trail, the trail-layer dials into the reseachdogs Trail Tracker page with a modern smartphone. He/she starts the application by pressing the button Record Traillayer, puts the phone in his/her pocket and lays the trail. At the finish he/she presses the button again, which by now shows the legend “Stop Recording”. Underneath the button a 5-digit code is displayed, by which the laid trail can now be identified. Before beginning the search later on, one of the persons participating in the search dials into the Web-application. The 5-digit code provided by the trail-layer is put into the box TrailID and the button Record Trail is pressed. After finishing the trail or aborting it the button Stop Recording is pressed again. Both routes can now be compared.
Comparison Mode
By entry of the Trail Code, which was generated when laying the trail and later used to walk it, on this website under Trail Tracker - View Trails both courses – that of the trail-layer as well as that of the trailing-team – can be viewed in overlapping pictures. You can choose between four different types of maps: Google streetview, relief or satellite, but also openstreetview-maps, which offer accurate topological information, especially in areas far away from roads and streets. Furthermore you will find a link underneath the displayed map, which allows you to download the data as KML-file, in order to save them or to display and measure them in Google Earth. All saved trails are being erased from this server within a maximum of 10 days.
Demonstration
Under the menu item Trail Tracker - About you can watch a demonstration of the mobile tracker on your PC and get yourself acquainted with it. To this we recommend you use the Google Chrome Webbrowser, which you can download here for free. The courses shown as demonstration on Trailtracker - View Trail are no real trails but computer generated data, which only show coordinates at the basic points. Hence the unnaturally straight courses. When you are recording a trail, every second your position is saved together with the time. To keep the demonstration running smoothly despite frequent call-ups, we are using a reduced and simplified model to present the display options. We are currently working on a solution to show a more realistic scenario.
